Berker Bilgin received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering and M.S. degree in mechatronics from Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. He has several years of experience in automotive industry and development of automotive systems and components. He was an engineer at Mercedes-Benz Turk A.S. from 2004 until 2008. At Mercedes-Benz Turk, Mr. Bilgin was involved in several projects including test and prototyping of Mercedes-Benz Travego buses of two and three axles in Euro4 exhaust norms. He is currently a Ph.D. student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Illinois Institute of Technology. He has been working as a graduate research assistant at the Electric Power and Power Electronics Center since January 2009. His research interests include power electronics, motor drives, propulsion systems, and advanced electric drive vehicles. He is currently working on a novel switched reluctance machine for the propulsion system of a solar/battery all-electric auto rickshaw.
