Under the direction of Dr. Ali Emadi, a few ECE students began a novel approach to research and learning at IIT and it has grown to be the largest interdisciplinary student project in the history of the university. The Armour College of Engineering (ACE) Formula Hybrid Racing Team is a research based project in which students build a new hybrid racecar from scratch every year. Once it is built, the team races against other universities at an annual event sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
